World Literature I (Ancient)
2024-2025
Why does some literature endure the test of time? Great literature speaks to the human heart in every generation that follows its creation. It speaks to fundamental truths about the human experience. In this survey of early World Literature, students will read and discuss foundational works from ancient times through the 1500's. They will read exciting tales of triumph and tragedy and discuss incredible myths and epics told in poetry and prose- all in a search for truth, goodness and beauty. Students will analyze long and short forms of fiction. They will participate in discussions, read critical writings, watch videos by field experts, practice writing creatively and persuasively, and make connections to the historical period in which the literature was created.
World Literature II (Modern) will be offered in 2025-2026.
HOMEWORK
Homework will take about an hour per day. More time may be required when there is a writing project. Homework will consist of reading the text and writing thoughtful responses to discussion questions. Less frequently, homework may include watching a video, listening to music, looking at art, or producing a creative piece.
