Modern World Literature
2025-2026
This class will cover the study of literature from the 17th through the 20th centuries. We will read literature influenced by different cultures, including those in Europe, The Americas, Asia, and Africa. The class will include opportunities for creative, expository, and research-based writing. Students will analyze different kinds of literature including fiction, non-fiction, novels, short stories, poetry, drama, and travelogues. Students will participate in discussions, read critical writings, listen to lectures by field experts, work in groups, and make connections to the history of the period in which the literature was created.
> Ancient World Literature will be offered again in 2026-2027.
HOMEWORK
Homework will usually take an hour or more to complete per day. This excludes larger projects and research paper work.
