Ancient World Literature
2026-2027
Why does some literature endure the test of time? Great literature speaks to fundamental truths about the human experience and compels change in those who dare to wrestle with it. In this survey of Ancient World Literature, students will read and discuss foundational works from ancient times through the Middle Ages. They will read exciting tales of triumph and tragedy and discuss incredible myths and epics- all in a search for truth, goodness and beauty. They will participate in discussions, read critical writings, watch videos by field experts, practice writing creatively and persuasively, and connect the literature to the historical period in which it was created.
World Literature II (Modern) will be offered in 2027-2028.
HOMEWORK
Homework will take an hour or more per day. More time may be required when there is a writing project. Homework will consist of reading the text and writing thoughtful responses to discussion questions. Less frequently, homework may include watching a video, listening to music, looking at art, or producing a creative piece.
PARENT RESPONSIBILITY
Parent will need to make sure that the student is keeping up with readings and assignments.
