American History

I love American History and am so excited to use Christ and the Americas by Dr. Anne Carroll as our primary textbook this year. I love this text because, while Dr. Anne Carroll certainly provides excellent content regarding important events and persons in our history as Americans, she also spends a great amount of time discussing how the Catholic Church shaped our country. My hope is that students will appreciate and feel proud of their Catholic heritage as they move through each historical time period. Students will read chapters at home and complete chapter questions to help facilitate class discussions. Students will write several papers and read 2-3 additional books throughout this course. We will also make use of the Rand McNally Atlas of American History. We will spend our time together in class in Socratic discussion as students learn to think and speak critically about the texts.

HOMEWORK
Students should expect to spend time each week reading and answering comprehension questions at the end of each chapter. More time may be needed during projects or essays depending on the week.
PARENT RESPONSIBILITY
Parents should expect to be involved in encouraging their student to complete the assigned work each week so that they have their assignments prepared for our class time at OLGC.
